Biblical Exegesis TEOL2735
This course focuses on the interpretation of a selection of Old and New Testament texts. The aim of the course is for the students to be able apply the methods and tools learned in earlier courses and to develop their exegetical skills. Students will strengthen their ability to study different genres of biblical texts from a historical critical, literary and theological perspectives, and learn to produce coherent exegetical papers on a selection of texts. This will not only teach the students how to study the texts presented in this course, but will establish strategies for interpreting other biblical texts.
Prerequisites: TEOL1715 and TEOL2725.

Studiekrav
In order to receive a final assessment, the student must:
- Attend 60% of the lectures
- Submit and have approved two short papers (400-600 words each) by the due date. See Syllabus for details, due date and topics
- Submit and have approved a draft of the exegetical paper. The draft must count more than 2000 words. The paper must include correctly formatted references and a bibliography. See Syllabus for details, due date and topics. The draft must prove that the student uses relevant academic literature and that he/she uses appropriate historically oriented exegetical methodology. The student will get a brief response to the draft.
- Participate in the electronic evaluation of the course if such evaluation is stipulated in the relevant term.
When course requirements are not fulfilled, this will count as one examination attempt, unless the student withdraws before the set deadline (1 May/November).

The student has:
- a good knowledge of the books of composition and historical setting of Genesis, Exodus, Psalms, Isaiah, Luke, Acts and Galatians.
- knowledge of historical and/or literary interpretations of the following texts:

SKILLS
The student can:
- apply historical critical methods to biblical texts
- apply literary critical methods to biblical texts
- discuss the historical meaning of a selection of biblical texts
- write a coherent exegetical paper pertaining to a selection biblical texts
Avsluttende vurdering
The final assessment for this course is an exegetical paper (2500-3500 words). This paper is a revised version of the paper submitted during the term. In order to receive a final assessment, the student must fulfill the course requirements within the fixed deadline. The course and final exam will be graded as A-E (Pass) or F (Fail).
