Pilgrimage in Norway has reemerged after centuries of absence and decline. Part of an effect called 'Caminoisation', the pilgrimage system developed in ways triggered by the expectations that have come to be associated with the Camino Santiago, but with significant differences. The reconstruction of pilgrimage in Norway has triggered a reckoning with Viking history, heightened feeling of ambivalence of St. Olav as the patron saint of Norway and the effect of nationalist terror and climate change on how such a practice can be reconstructed in a Protestant, ecumenical and interfaith mode.
