Ancient Amulets and the Gospel
Visiting scholar Dr. Joseph E. Sanzo presents how ancient amulets deal with and use the gospel.
In this seminar Dr. Joseph E. Sanzo (Ludwig-Maximillians-Universität, Munich) presents a new reading and analysis of the Greek-Coptic bilingual manuscript P.Berol. 11710 where he reassesses earlier interpretations that it is an amulet using an apocryphal Gospel. Instead, Sanzo sees this as a formulary for an apotropaic or curative ritual that adopts Gospel-text according to its own purpose.
