Material Culture of Egyptian Christianity: The Western and Eastern Deserts
Archaeology around the development of Christianity in Egypt.
Run in collaboration with the French Institute for Oriental Archaeology, this archaeological research programme studies the development of Christianity in the deserts of Egypt. It’s main focus is now the excavation of Tell Qasr al-‘Aguz, in al-Bahriyya Oasis, the oldest securely dated monastery currently standing. The project is led by Prof. Victor Ghica.
