Trauma and Care seminar
Seminar on Trauma and Care taking place at MF - Norwegian School of Theology, Religion and Society, Oslo, from 11 to 14 October 2019.
Professors Shelly Rambo (Boston University Theological School) and Pamela Cooper-White (Union Theological Seminary, New York), prominent scholars in the field of theology and trauma, are invited as keynote speakers to a seminar on Trauma and Care taking place at MF - Norwegian School of Theology, Religion and Society, Oslo, from 11 to 14 October 2019.
Day one of the seminar, Friday 11 October, will feature two main keynotes by Rambo and Cooper-White on trauma and theology. Shelly Rambo has been invited to reflect on the theological themes and doctrinal implications of her own work in relation to classical themes of Christian theology. Cooper-White will focus on the theological elements of her work at the intersection of constructive theology, pastoral care and psychoanalysis. Each keynote will be followed by discussion in small groups and a plenary conversation with the two presenters.
After lunch, participants are invited to a workshop on the methodological aspects of the work with trauma in the disciplines of religion and theology. Beside Rambo and Cooper-White, we will hear from Prof. Sverre Varvin (Oslo Metropolitan University), a psychiatrist currently researching and teaching on complex trauma among refugees and migrants. The workshop will focus on methodological questions at the intersection of theology, religion and trauma: how is research on theology and trauma conducted? What are for theologians the parameters of empirical and interdisciplinary work in relation to the more clinical and pastoral aspects of trauma? What ethical requirements do theologians and scholars of religion need to relate to when working on such issues?
