Generell informasjon

This course is one of two core courses of 30 ECTS each for students taking supplementary year for the Ministry, Mission and Media program of studies.
 
Bible 2 is made up of three parts: Old Testament 2, New Testament 2 and Biblical Theology. Together, completing the three parts of this course, students will be well equipped to interpret and discuss a wide variety of biblical texts and theological discussions related to them.
 
Prerequisites: To register for this course the student must have completed TEOL1715 with a passing grade.

Studiekrav

The requirements for receiving a final assessment are:
  • Attend minimum 75% of the lectures
  • Submit and have approved an exegetical paper. The paper must include correctly formatted references and a bibliography. See Syllabus for details, due date and topics.
  • Participate in the evaluation of the curriculum and/or of the learning environment, if such evaluation is stipulated in the relevant term

Avsluttende vurdering

Final assesment for this course is a 6-hour written exam. This course is graded on a scale of A-F.

The student can:
  • write an academic paper using relevant sources which are referred to in a correct manner
 
PART A: OLD TESTAMENT 2: METHOD AND EXEGESIS (10 ETCS)
This part of the course will cover issues related to the study of the Old Testament, different methods and interpretive strategies, and practical use of exegetical methods.
 
KNOWLEDGE
The student has:
  • a good knowledge of the historical critical method of exegesis as it applies to Old Testament texts.
  • knowledge of the history of the interpretation of the Old Testament
  • knowledge of the books of Genesis, Exodus, Psalms, Isaiah, and Job
  • knowledge of the implications of genre on the historical critical method of exegesis
 
SKILLS
The student can:
  • identify different genres of texts in the Old Testament
  • reflect on the differences between different methods of interpretation
  • use the historical critical method of exegesis to interpret the following texts: Genesis 1-2; 12; Exodus 3:1-4:17; 20; Psalms 8, 22, 110; Isaiah 7:1-17; 40:1-11; 52:13-53:12; 55; Job 1:1-2:13; 4:1-11; 38:1-40:2; 42:7-17
  • write an exegetical paper
 
PART B: NEW TESTAMENT 2: METHOD AND EXEGESIS (10 ECTS)
This part of the course will cover issues related to the study of the New Testament, different methods and interpretive strategies, and practical use of exegetical methods.
 
KNOWLEDGE
The student has:
  • a good knowledge of the methods of New Testament Interpretation
  • a good knowledge of historical critical method of exegesis as it applies to New Testament Texts
  • knowledge of the books of Luke, Acts, 1st Corinthians and Galatians.
  • knowledge of the implications of genre on the historical critical method of exegetical to different genres of New Testament Texts.
  • knowledge of the history of the Interpretation of the New Testament
 
 
SKILLS
The student can:
  • identify different genres of texts in the New Testament
  • use exegetical method on the following texts: Luke 1:1-4, 2:1-20; 3:1-20; 4:14-44; 6:17-49; 11:1-13; 15. Acts 1-2; 9:1-35; 10; 15:1-35. 1 Corinthians 8, 12-13; Galatians 2:15-3:22; 5:13-26
  • write an exegetical paper
 
PART C: BIBLICAL THEOLOGY (10 ECTS)
This part of the course will focus on key topics in Biblical Theology from the Old and New Testaments, teaching the student important aspects of theological aspects of the biblical text
 
KNOWLEDGE
The student has:
  • a good knowledge of the themes of Old Testament Theology
  • a good knowledge of the themes of New Testament Theology
  • knowledge of the Theology of Paul
  • knowledge of the Theology of the Gospel of Luke
  • an overview of different approaches to Biblical Theology
  • an overview of the history of Biblical Theology
 
SKILLS
The student can:
  • relate biblical passages to themes in Biblical Theology
  • reflect on their own views of theological questions based on their interpretation of biblical passages
  • discuss the different methods of biblical interpretation and how they can lead to different understandings of God
